WeChat closed 8 thousand groups related to gambling

According to the Security Center of the WeChat messenger, in the second quarter of 2018 - 8,000 groups were engaged in the distribution of illegal gambling and sports betting.

During this period in China, a jump of illegal online bets was recorded at very high position. Experts explain this: due to soccer World Cup-2018, "gray" casinos and bookmakers started their activities.

On the WeChat platform there is more than 1 billion people registered. According to the Tencent management of the messenger, since 2014 in WeChat you can send red envelopes. This old Chinese tradition: people send each other red envelopes with money during the celebration of the Chinese New Year. Only this year, 768 million "Hong-bao" were sent.

Experts argue: with the help of such envelopes, numerous illegal lotteries, bets are held, which is especially popular among the Chinese users.

As the police told, gambling through WeChat or other messengers is very difficult to detect. Group chats often and quickly change to avoid hacker attacks and steal confidential user data.
