The Sweden gambling regulator accepts applications for licensing of gambling activities

The Swedish gambling regulator Lotteriinspektionen received 60 applications from operators for a gambling license.

The launch of the legalized market is scheduled for January 1, 2019. Among submitted requests, the overwhelming majority are applications for licensing of online casinos.

CEO of the Lotteriinspektionen, Camilla Rosenberg noted that the period between the adoption of a new law on gambling by the Swedish legislators and the launch of a new market was “extremely short”. Thus, the “absolute priority” of the regulator is the processing of licensing applications this fall.

Last week, Louise Nylen, vice president of LeoVegas mobile gaming operator, said it would be better if the government clarified the rules of the new market before the licensees start working.

For comparison, in Poland the legalized online gambling market began operating in April 2017, but so far only 10 companies have received licenses.
