MGM is actively preparing to enter the Japanese gambling market
Major global operators have begun preparations for obtaining a license in the Japanese gambling market before the legalization was announced. Hoping to be one of the first contenders, MGM launched an office in Osaka.
The Solemn event dedicated to opening of the company's offices in Japan will be held in a hotel in Osaka. Other major operators, such as Melco Resorts & Entertainment and Genting, have also recently opened their offices in the country. Such measures are necessary in order to convince the local government that gambling giants are quite knowledgeable about the gambling landscape of the country, and are determined to become part of the Japanese gambling market.
Media reports that MGM chairman and CEO Jim Murren spends a lot of time in Japan to establish business contacts with potential partners. The CEO considers Osaka as the best option for building a casino resort in Japan. Jim Murren has already met with Governor - Ichiro Matsui and Osaka Mayor Hirofumi Yoshimura.
“There is obvious progress in communicating with Japanese partners to form a consortium,” - said Murren. He also added that the company will support Osaka in obtaining certification for the construction of a casino resort in the region.
For his part, Matsui said that Osaka will officially begin accepting applications from private sector representatives this spring. And he added that he expects an active offer from MGM.
