Lack of regulation of online gambling is a shame for the Netherlands
According to Jan Suiver, the head of the Kansspelautoriteit local gambling regulator, the inability of the state to adopt legislation regulating online gambling disgraces the country.
“The Netherlands is practically the only country in the EU that has not settled online gambling,” - said Suiver in an interview with Financieele Dagblad.
One of the reasons for this state of affairs, in his opinion, is the opposition of two strict Protestant parties in parliament - ChristenUnie and SGP.
According to various estimates, between 500,000 and 1,000,000 people in the Netherlands - use gambling sites, and without adopting legislation, the government promotes lawlessness.
Currently, a bill to license online gambling in the Netherlands is still under consideration by the Senate, which was to discuss it after a break this year.
Senate also has plans for Netherlands to open the gambling market for international operators.
